Erich Fromm – Anatomie der menschlichen Destruktivität: Wenn man sich mit Depressionen und Langeweile beschäftigt, stößt man auf reiches Material, aus dem hervorgeht, daß das Gefühl, zur Wirkungslosigkeit verdammt zu sein – das heißt zu einer völligen vitalen Impotenz, von der die sexuelle Impotenz nur einen kleinen Teil darstellt -, eines der schmerzlichsten und vielleicht fast unerträglichen Erlebnisse ist und daß der Mensch fast alles versuchen wird, um es zu überwinden – von Arbeitswut über Drogen bis zu Grausamkeit und Mord.

I got Erich Fromm's "Man for Himself" (1947) which is a psycho-philosophical book on freedom, and an 1982 guide book to card games and solitaires from the recycling centre. Especially the two-player solitaires are interesting in the latter one. These have seen very little use, they feel new.

This is one of the most profound things I've ever come to realise. To love people is to essentially love humanity and life, including oneself. It isn't something you chase nor seek to manifest in people or things, you create and find it in the appreciation of all there is around you and all that we are. Life is as messy as it is beautiful and we can find love anywhere and everywhere. Don't let the noise and doubt of the world make you forget that!
