Liebe Lebensformen,

Dear life forms,

Most ant pittas live on the ground in neotropical forests and are rarely seen and quite unknown. Although I think they are very beautiful.

They do not belong to the songbirds but to the tyranni (suboscines) These differ from the songbirds in that they have a simpler lower larynx.

This long-legged beauty is an equatorial antpitta. It has only been a separate species since 2020, previously it was considered a subspecies of the rufous antpitta.

Animals are friends, not food or a nuisance.
Stay healthy, happy and in love.

The most terrible pain in the soul is wanderlust.

Plump, short-tailed, and long-legged bird found in Andean cloud forest in Ecuador, northern Peru, and the central Andes of Colombia; also known from one site in Colombia’s eastern Andes. Plumage is chestnut-brown with a slightly paler belly. Smaller and plainer than other highland antpittas in its range. Stays low inside high elevation cloud forest and heard far more often than seen. Songs include a short, whistled “wit, wi-di-dit” and a descending trill. Formerly called Rufous Antpitta.
