@Snoro this is very encouraging.

There are a host of other aspects of climate literacy, however. How does one communicate about it effectively? How does one engage in policy development? How does one identify and mitigate #ClimateJustice & #EnvironmentalJusticeIsAClimateSolution ?

All of these are important skills, & many are soft, non- technical skills.

We are at risk of technocratic solutions that leave people behind if these broader considerations are not part of the #ClimateLiteracy curriculum.

#AcceleratingKeelingCurve: As I wrote in November 2020, before it was clear who the next U.S. president would be, a Biden victory “wouldn’t magically solve the #climatecrisis” any more than a Trump victory would guarantee our doom. We’ve got a long way to go. Even if we can’t stop temperatures from rising 1.5 degrees, 2 degrees would be a hell of a lot better than 3.
Whoever wins the White House, I’ll probably look back at 2024 with disappointment and frustration over all the climate progress we could have made but didn’t. But that won’t mean we should throw up our collective hands in despair, or give up- Sammy Roth

#EnvironmentalJusticeIsAClimateSolution: Some climate activists are frustrated by DWP’s plan to convert several power plants from burning fossil gas to #hydrogen — a top priority for the politically powerful labor unions whose members operate those plants, but a nonstarter for environmental justice groups who worry that hydrogen combustion would lead to continued #airpollution in low-income communities of color.
More broadly, DWP will need to make sure its clean energy programs bring proportionate benefits to low-income families and communities of color — which they historically have not, according to a recent report commissioned by the utility.

Mayor Karen Bass has a momentous decision ahead of her as she chooses the Department of Water and Power’s next general manager.
