Once more I had a very good time with my seminar visiting the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin. Thanks to Ina Heumann for making it possible, her time and her expertise.

We had an excellent time exploring how the museum represents environments and how different material and conceptual environments are mediated in a museum. We will continue the discussion next week in class.

Sadly, I forgot, AGAIN, to take a picture of the interesting (and terrifying) skulls and antlers exhibit. Fortunately, it looks like there are occasional opportunities to see it as part of guided visits (and it seems it will open to the public next summer): https://www.museumfuernaturkunde.berlin/de/mitmachen/veranstaltungen/geweihe-schaedel-und-dekoloniale-perspektiven-ein-blick-hinter-die

My bottom line, building on Hobsbawm, Ranger and Anderson, is: #ethnicity, as an imagined community, is a construct, an invented tradition that ends up being, to quote myself, an “invented nature”
