the roamerLast week we had a day's family outing to Salisbury, with guests. A fine late-summer afternoon, some clouds but no rain, a warm day with hints of autumn in the air.
We took Castorp with us, so I had an excuse to avoid the museum. Instead I could sit on a bench on the green by the cathedral, Castorp lying next to me on the grass. I soaked up the beauty of the building in front of me, a stony dream of a spiritual England, long lost yet still lingering on.
Meanwhile Castorp dreamt of a chicken dish, checked out every dog that passed by, and felt safe since he was near me.
