on that regard, I'm just curious, what are your preferred ways to set up a selection process for a #software #engineer?

You often read posts on how NOT to run interviews.

I'm looking for suggestions on how to do it well, trying to find a candidate which is good technically and aligns with the team ethos.

🌪️ Ah, the riveting tale of an #engineer trying to outsmart Rust's #type #system and failing spectacularly. 🤦‍♂️ Spoiler: The #compiler doesn't care about your "mindshift" or "Redux data races," it just refuses to entertain your messy #code. 🚫🧩

A data race that doesn't compile

How I taught Rust’s type system to refuse my own parallel-Redux data races, with one false start and one mind-shift.

#Introduction

Hello everyone,

I finally found a home for my profile outside of mastodon.social, after nearly two years of being on the network!

#Mathstodon was the natural choice for me because I've always had a casual interest in #mathematics and lately I've been getting into (basic) formal #logic

I worked as a #software #engineer for nearly two years, but after moving countries I found myself without a job for quite a while. During that time, I ended up learning a lot of things I don't think I would have had the energy for had I still been working.

On many matters my opinion has changed substantially over the last year or so, and perhaps for the better, but on the whole I've gone from unearned confidence to general uncertainty, which I know some find irritating but I think it leads to interesting discussions.

I'm excited to see what this instance has to offer and to hopefully make some meaningful contributions.

- The only thing I would've made different [beyond mere shapes] would be the #LEDs by using some #DotStar [or similar] individually addressable RGBW-LEDs...

Also one can see this guy is an #Engineer doing #Prototyping a lot, cuz they seem to almost always use Hex-head Screws!
- Simply because they are more durable, survive more cycles and have more symmetric torque surfaces, making them less straining.

Details of the cancelled horror Project Sundown have leaked, a mix of sci-fi, survival, and robots playing creepy oldies.

Engineer Ava heads to a research complex to find a missing scientist but stumbles upon humanoid cyborgs, robotic copies of herself (Robo-Avas), and a giant robot Alex that stalks her to songs from the 70s and 80s. Your medkit is a syringe called "Elixir of Eternity," and you can bash foes with a metal femur...

Should You Become a Software Engineer in 2026?

So, if you’re considering going into software engineering around June or July of 2026, it’s still a pretty decent career path. I mean, it pays a lot of money depending on your experience. A lot of people thought AI was going to take over and that software engineering would eventually disappear, but there’s been a lot of debate about that recently. Many people are saying that AI simply enhances the development process rather than replacing developers entirely. At the same time, there is […]
