Unfounded Health Concerns Are Powering a Solar Backlash

Across the U.S., critics are pressuring public officials to stop or stall new solar projects, often citing unfounded health concerns.

Dept. of Interior bribes oil company $1B from taxpayer coffers to stop wind power

The Dept. of the Interior pledged $1 billion to a French oil company to stop developing wind, and to increase costly, deadly methane instead.

"All of the wind projects the Trump administration is attempting to stall or kill have gone through extensive permitting and review processes with the Defense Department and other federal agencies."

Judges aren't buying claims that wind farms threaten national security, for good reason

The supposed national security threat that the Trump administration has used as an excuse to try to kill five energy projects that would provide cheaper, cleaner electricity to 20 states and Washington D.C. is largely a mirage.

Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists

Given the challenges involved in retrofits this would also be an enormouse sink for labor and hence employment. The vector of money would need to change, which of course is why modernization of this kind is opposed by legacy money holes such as firms selling products intended to be burned as rapidly as possible (an ideal situation for any vendor!).

"Individual building-level approaches are needed to understand the full potential of rooftop photovoltaics (PV) at national and regional scale. Here we use the European Digital Building Stock Model R2025, an open-access building-level database, to assess rooftop solar potential for each of the 271 million buildings in the European Union. The results show that potential capacity could reach 2.3 TWp (1,822 GWp residential, 519 GWp non-residential), with an annual output of 2,750 TWh based on current PV technology. This corresponds to approximately 40% of electricity demand in a 100% renewable scenario for 2050. Already by 2030, over a half of buildings with floor area larger than 2,000 m2 could generate most of remaining capacity for the 2030 target with 355 GWp. Across member states, non-residential rooftops could cover 50% or more of their PV targets, with several exceeding 95%."

Mapping Europe’s rooftop photovoltaic potential with a building-level database - Nature Energy

This resource presents an open per-building dataset of rooftop solar photovoltaics potential for the European Union. The results show that potential capacity could cover approximately 40% of electricity demand in a 100% renewable scenario for 2050.

"While JLR did not say what specific vulnerabilities it sees in armoured electric vehicles, key engineering roadblocks are likely to include the extra weight from the battery cells, range issues and the time needed to recharge."

Because after being chased for a couple of hundred kilometers by terrorists and with no response from the rest of the security apparatus, recharging won't be respected by the malefactors, who otherwise would gladly stand by during refueling.

"This paper focuses on the specific role of installers, a category of often overlooked diffusion intermediaries doing the actual implementation of energy transitions. We adopt an ecosystems perspective and aim to provide new knowledge on the installers' role in energy transitions, possible changes in this role, and the challenges installers face. Based on evidence from case studies in Gothenburg and Rotterdam, we first show how installers make or break energy transitions. They differ from other intermediaries in their long-term trust relations with customers, their deep contextual knowledge, and involvement in post-technology deployment. We unveil new nuances regarding downstream (installers deploy strategies to include budget-constrained customers in energy transitions) and upstream actors (installers face manufacturers' lock-ins and are trained by wholesalers and manufacturers). Secondly, we show challenges installers face caused by regulatory, market and technological dynamics in transitions, and identify new roles for them as IT-specialists, manufacturers and holistic advisors."

If one was working for the fossil fuel industry, this is exactly the right move so as to paralyze financing of #EnergyModernization.

Parsimony suggests this as the most likely reason for the halt.

But why did the narcissist sell himself and sell us out so cheaply? The price is so low that it beggars belief.

Anyway, every day of delay is another day to monetize a stale resource.
