There are two problems with the false idea that the US is energy independent. One, as described below, is that we actually aren't. And two, uneducated conservatives think oil is oil is oil, when what we're pumping is the sludgy highly contaminated dregs at the bottom of wells that has to be highly processed and costs more both to get and to refine. The high quality, easy pickings are long gone here.
