On May 8, 19-year-old Olivia Andre, who fled with her family from torture and abuse in the Congo, was released from Dilley Immigration center in Texas after six months.

The nursing student from Maine had been separated from her mother and two younger siblings who were released in March. The shackles she was forced to wear for long periods left scars on her wrists and ankles. Mental scars include insomnia, nightmares, depression and PTSD.

Release came after a federal district court ruled that Andre’s continued detention violated her
constitutional right to due process.

STOP REPRODUCTIVE INJUSTICE! STOP ICE!

"A two-month-old baby boy suffered respiratory distress while held at the Dilley Family Detention Center in Texas, operated by a for-profit company. According to Congressman Joaquin Castro, the infant became unresponsive, and there was no doctor available when staff tried to seek help. An ambulance took him to the hospital where he recovered but the family was later deported to Mexico.”—Scripps News

Steve Daines, why is Congress taking away Americans’ healthcare while superfunding ICE to terrorize communities, separate families, & lock up parents & kids in jails without clean water, medical care, or school? Stop the cruelty. End family detention! #FreeFamilies #MTPol #ICEOut #EndFamilyDetention
Steve Daines, parents & kids in ICE detention are denied access to due process, clean water, medical care, school, & even crayons. It’s long past time to stop the cruelty, neglect, & abuse. End family detention now! #FreeFamilies #MTPol #ICEOut #EndICECamps #EndFamilyDetention

It’s unconscionable that 5-yo Liam Conejo Ramos — taken from his family as he returned from preschool — has now been held for 5 DAYS in a Texas ICE detention center while his father pursues an active asylum case.

Detainees inside Dilley call the facility “a horrible, horrible place” with putrid water and meals with dirt and bugs, and say guards treat families like criminals. Can't imagine the trauma Liam's already experienced. This must stop. #FreeLiam #HumanRights #EndFamilyDetention

America’s Voice executive director Vanessa Cardenas: “President Biden should have a long talk with 2020 presidential candidate Biden about this. What was wrong and ineffective to candidate Biden then should be just as wrong and ineffective from his seat in the Oval Office.” #EndFamilyDetention
“In his presidential platform, candidate Biden also stated: ‘It is a moral failing and a national shame … when children are locked away in overcrowded detention centers and the government seeks to keep them there indefinitely.’” #EndFamilyDetention

The Biden admin is reportedly considering reinstating family detention. America’s Voice reminds that as a candidate, Biden called for children to be released with their parents. “Families belong together,” he tweeted in 2020. 👇🏽 #EndFamilyDetention

“President Biden Should Have a Long Talk with 2020 Presidential Candidate Biden About This” - Vanessa Cárdenas Reacts to Proposed Reinstitution of Family Detention - America's Voice

Washington, DC – The reported news that the Biden Administration is considering reinstating family detention is a disturbing development that threatens to again take the administration in the wrong direction on immigration policy. “Although no final decision has been made, the move would be a stark reversal for President Biden, who came into office promising to adopt a more compassionate approach to the border after his predecessor, former President Donald J. Trump, introduced a series of harsh immigration policies.” #EndFamilyDetention
