Matrix e2ee - It is honestly ridiculous that this is still a thing, but when encryption goes sideways, reactions are your best friend. Even when the message layer is completely broken, reactions usually still work. Encryption loves to fail in one direction, leaving you shouting into a void. If you suspect the keys are messed up, just ask: “Can you see this?”. Even if the other person can’t reply, they can usually still hit you with a reaction to let you know they’re there. The Mad Trix. #Emacs: Has anybody a clue why I can't find 🕵️‍♂️ (male-detective; man-detective as of https://www.emojiace.com/man-detective ) via "C-x 8 RET"?

I was puzzled not to be able to play around with it while reading the awesome article of https://www.rahuljuliato.com/posts/unicode-emojis

Edit: I found it via: M-x emoji-insert (C-x 8 e i): People → Role → y

I'd prefer to also find it via C-x 8 RET (search) though.

Edit 2: https://graz.social/@[email protected]/115841865683226543 suggests that composed emojis aren't available for "C-x 8 RET". 😔 However, the linked article above explains how to compose it yourself from "SLEUTH OR SPY" (🕵️) and "MALE SIGN" (♂).

UTF-8 is everywhere in modern software. Unfortunately, clear explanations of how it works and why it matters are quite rare, even if those should really be part of every "intro to programming" course. Most courses just deal with text processing by saying "here is the ASCII table, every letter is mapped to 1 byte, and texts are just arrays of letters" like we're stuck in the 90's.

I pretty much completely stopped using #emoticons like :) when #emojis became available.

I think because I find emojis to be a much more elegant and complete solution to the same problem. Elegant in that emojis have a dedicated, unambiguous #encoding; complete in that there are loads and loads of emojis to choose from.
