Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions were 6 percent lower in 2023 than in 2022. This was mainly due to 22 percent lower emissions in the electricity sector. Less electricity was produced from coal and natural gas. Statistics Netherlands (CBS) and the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM)/Emissions Register report this on the basis of provisional quarterly figures on GHG emissions, in accordance with the IPCC guidelines.
