#ElvisMovie tuvo 8 nominaciones al #Oscars y se fue en ceros
El icono musical de USA no tuvo su gran noche en la gala del cine
@HyL My understanding from reading Peter Guralnick's book is that he was very much as anti-racist, anti-segregation as the film depicts and himself felt very indebted to Black musicians. Many black musicians/contemporaries spoke very well of him.
@fernby Last, I disagree that the film lacked emotional depth, which I've seen several critics say. The film managed to be a traditional tragedy where the hero's strength is also his downfall (in this case, his ambition and his need to provide for his "family") because his pace was always going to be unsustainable w/out chemicals, but also managed to make that story or that journey, primarily through Austin Butler's incredible performance, totally human.
@fernby Additionally, while I get that the "he died from love" was cringey, I would argue that it was deliberately so. It's the Colonel's effort to deflect blame from himself and bring his Elvis snow job full circle. He always interacted with fans as if Elvis were their pet and did everything for them. So, to the Colonel, I think spinning Elvis's ambition as love for his fans makes total sense. 2/*
