Okay, I have a question that I'd been putting off for literal years.

For most of my life I have exclusively been using #degoogled #Android variants (#LineageOS and #crDroid).

At some point ages ago, Google broke notifications for Android phones without Google Play services. Or something, I'm not sure.

Back then, I just ignored the issue. I remember reading at the time that supposedly you could fix it somehow by hosting your own notification server or whatever, but then this sounded way too complicated and sketchy to me, so I decided to just wait to see if the community comes out with an easy fix.

But now it's 2026 and only a select few of my apps actually send notifications: the standard calendar, Tutamail, KDE Connect and some weather apps. Most other apps, including ones I really want notifications for, don't get through: #ElementX, my bank's app, #Moshidon and so many others.

It's getting on my nerves!

Can anyone give me a pointer as to how all this works these days? I missed out on this entire topic and now it looks daunting.

Trying the Element #Matrix chat client again on Android is a mess. I've used #Element (classic) before and now installed #ElementX.

Even after clearing app data and uninstalling both , after reinstalling both remember my account 🤔, but repeatedly fail to login with #OAuth "already used" and that's it. No way to login. Awful UX.

@carmenlisandrette The #ElementX is also a possibility (it works on #Matrix protocol which have multiple other client apps aside of Element).

Pues hice cuenta en element x y en su app matrix.org porque se está abriendo cuentas gente que conozco. Es la primera vez que oigo sobre esto. Si alguien tiene cuenta allí podría compartir como le va? #matrix #elementx

Also das muss ich loswerden: Ich richte gerade auf einem #EndeavourOS den #OpenClaw ein. Und ich muss sagen, in Verbindung mit #ElementX ist das eine ganz schöne Fummelkiste. Ich hänge gerade enorm bei der Verifizierung fest, aber das bekomme ich auch noch in den Griff.
Zwischendurch bekomme ich ja schon ein Lebenszeichen gesendet, wenn ich ihn händisch lauschen lasse. Man fühlt sich ein bisschen, als wenn man #Skynet aufbaut. 😂🤖

Erster Eindruck bisher: #ElementX rendert die Nachrichten deutlich sauberer und schicker als #ElementClassic.

Feature-mäßig scheint aber noch einiges zu fehlen, z.B. scheint man nicht mehr zur ersten ungelesenen Nachricht springen zu können?

Die Text-Suchfunktion scheint auch nicht mehr existent zu sein?

Mal ganz davon abgesehen, dass die Einstellmöglichkeiten mehr als spärlich sind.
