Come and See (1985)

The invasion of a village in Byelorussia by German forces sends young Florya into the forest to join the weary Resistance fighters, against his family's wishes. There he meets a girl, Glasha, who accompanies him back to his village. On returning home, Florya finds his family and fellow peasants massacred. His continued survival amidst the brutal debris of war becomes increasingly nightmarish, a battle between despair and hope.

After being shelved for years, Klimov's 'Farewell' was published 40 years ago.
It tells the story of Matjora, a Siberian village threatened by near-flooding caused by the construction of a power station.

Matjora, deserted, faces the vast expanse of water that will swallow it in due course, and something of value on this earth will disappear forever.

Klimov racconta la controversa figura di Rasputin in modo romanzesco mantenendo il mistero attorno al suo mito, la storia è tesa tra il filo della vita e della morte proprio come in un'agonia.
