UK clean energy startup turns to seawater to make green hydrogen

University of Aberdeen spin-off Hychor has developed a new electrolyser system that works directly with seawater to produce green hydrogen.

Without wanting to say "I told you so," it is worth noting that barely one year after my posts about CPH2's membrane-free electrolyzer, they had a serious incident during their Factory Acceptance Testing that resulted in "significant damage to the equipment."

Today at electrolysis I had the first pass over my upper lip. While it was certainly painful, it wasn’t noticeable more painful than other sensitive areas of the face.

So far I have only used standard painkillers (paracetamol and occasional ibuprofen) and gotten away with skipping numbing crème. I’m not too keen on numbing crème due to the required logistics around it, so that’s why for me I’m happy that I can get away without it. I want to be really explicit that I’m not advocating that’s the right solution for everyone, it’s just the better option for me.

I’m not really sure if the painkillers I take do anything and I have had several sessions with none. The main reason I took today was really my back was complaining mildly, and painkillers help me with that.

I haven’t counted on exactly how many hours I’m in (it’s also complicated for me, for reasons I wil get into another time) but I’m really seeing noticeable impact both in less hair coming back, and that the hair that do come back is softer and frequently white, where my normal hair is pretty black.

That said, I am far from done… but each session clearly feels like progress and is great for my mental health.
