If the entire rail network was electrified, and the lines were over-engineered to carry far more juice than a fully utilized and extended rail network could use, it could be a backup channel for the national electricity grid. Renewable generation could be added at small to medium scale, anywhere along the rail corridors, and either used by electric trains, or fed back into the general electricity supply.

Another article that confuses me. Why are subways not using regenerative braking already? This is a tech from the 20s (the previous ones). Why do they need to feed the power to EV charging stations, and not just power trains.
