This seems a topic of the moment.
My parents are OK right now, but I had a year of care after my Dad got in a car accident.
People talk a lot about the difficulties of caring, but it seems to mostly revolve around the time, money and drudgery of it. The difficulty of dealing with insults, moods, and abuse (especially where there is a history of it) tends to go quietly unsaid.
The image of the martyred, loving, patient daughter hides a lot of complexity. People will tell you you're a saint. Some imply you should be doing less or have better boundaries.
No one acknowledges the harm, or the reality that there are no good alternatives.
