"In Britain, resisting a genocide is now treated as terrorism

The Filton 4 case reveals a democracy more frightened of protesters than of the destruction they protest against.

At a moment when Israel and its leaders stand accused before international courts of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity, Britain has chosen to direct some of its most powerful legal tools not at those enabling the destruction of Gaza, but at activists protesting against it.

The sentencing of the Filton 4, therefore, raises questions that extend far beyond the fate of four individuals. Whatever one’s view of their actions, the case forces Britain to confront an uncomfortable contradiction: why does opposition to Israel’s actions increasingly attract the language of extremism and terrorism, while support for those actions remains firmly within the bounds of respectable politics?"

“The message from the British government could not be clearer: you may protest within the lines they have drawn. You may hold a sign on a designated route at a permitted time. You may even write a strongly-worded letter to your MP. You may do all the things that have been tried and have failed to stop the slaughter.

But if you take any real, direct action, you will be treated as a terrorist”

"Measly French measures have little impact on Israel’s weapons makers

Israeli participants at this week’s Eurosatory arms show in Paris have become quite accomplished at spitting out their croissants to protest restrictions placed on them.

Because of a “discriminatory policy” – as The Jerusalem Post describes it – Israeli firms may display “defensive” but not offensive weapons.

The distinction is bizarre. As Israel’s arms industry relies on an illegal occupation for its profitablity, all its products should be viewed as offensive in all senses of that word.

Moreover, the stipulations issued by the French government haven’t really driven Israel away from Eurosatory.

Displays of Israeli weapons theoretically had to be boarded up if they had been used to cause destruction or had been designed for that purpose. As the measures fell short of a ban on Israeli participation, Israel and its weapons industry could still capitalize on the obliteration they have inflicted to seek business opportunities internationally.

Worth $19.2 billion in 2025, Israeli weapons exports have risen fourfold over a decade, according to new data from the state’s defense ministry."

"UK minister accused of 'baiting' Zack Polanski into committing terror offence
Labour MP Mike Tapp asked the Green Party leader if he supported Palestine Action. Answering yes could land you in prison for 14 years

A British government minister has been accused of trying to bait Green Party leader Zack Polanski into committing a terrorism offence by asking him whether he supports the direct action group Palestine Action.

Last year, the Labour government proscribed Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation.

Accordingly, inviting support for a terrorist organisation is an offence punishable by a prison sentence of up to 14 years under British law.

On Monday, the UK's Court of Appeal overturned a High Court ruling and found the government’s ban on Palestine Action to be lawful.

In response, Green leader Polanski wrote on X: "This Governments branding of protest as 'terrorism' has seen grandparents arrested and dragged through the courts simply for holding up signs."
