This is a timely music track released today. It was written by Woody Guthrie, following the January 28, 1948, plane crash that filled the crew and all the passengers, mostly migrant farm workers. Eilen Jewell, the Queen of the Minor Key, darkened up the melody for this performance.

That the song is so timely nearly 80 years later calls to mind this Mark Erelli verse,

The same old battle's raging
All on down the line

Evidently AJ Lee and Blue Summit has been around for a few years but the band is a new signing to the Signature Sounds label. Signature Sounds, for me, has had its best success, in recent times, with veteran acts. Examples include Eilen Jewell, Brennen Leigh, and Chris Smither. So, the fresh faced Blue Summit may mark a nod or even a return to the early days of Signature Sounds.

"Hillside," the teaser track available now at Bandcamp, is really encouraging. After the knowing and very pretty soloing on the verses, the density of the harmony on the chorus took me by surprise. I definitely like it. The song ends a little soon; but then again, we don't have the show biz expression, "Leave 'em wanting more," for no reason.

Five Stars for the great promise this group shows.

#EilenJewell, the proverbial "Queen Of The Minor Key" sounds beautiful this Tuesday morning.

I'm doing a little bit of audit work, a little bit of biting into a bagel, a little bit of having a sip of coffee, a little bit of entering data on a spreadsheet, but-

but thanks to Ms Jewell, all of the above activities are performed with a wistful facial expression, and waltz-y sort of shuffle shoulders-arms-and-hands movements.
