I've said it before but I guess I need to keep saying it: Any discussion of #LongTermism needs to be very clear that the "future people" are entirely hypothetical, & the probability of their existence in most contemporary #Longtermist scenarios is astronomically improbable.
Similar caveats apply for all the #effectivealtruist arguments I've heard - & in general needs to be applied whenever you're looking at #utilitarianism, as well.

I just wrote an article for #EffectiveAltruism forum about the work @trans_rescue is doing to help at-risk LGBTQ+ people of all sorts escape Uganda. I had the opportunity to talk with @AnneOgborn about what's needed to safely transport someone out of Uganda and help them get settled and on their feet in their new country, so if you're curious about Trans Rescue's work, it may be worth a read.
For any #EffectiveAltruist folks here on Mastodon, my takeaway was that, because Trans Rescue was in the right place at the right time with existing expertise and resources to help LGBTQ+ people in East Africa, they're able to do this important work very cost effectively.
Mastodon has been feeling kinda dead lately. Each week for the last few months I use it less and less. Why? I don't know. Perhaps the difficulty of finding engaging sub communities?
