As part of an Oral Bible Storying workshop, people from various languages came together to memorize key stories of the Bible in a storytelling format. This makes God's Word accessible for languages without a written Bible. In this photo, speakers of Namakura, a language from islands northeast of Efate Island, recited portions of Abraham's story. I recorded their stories so they could have a digital copy of their work. Lunch with a view to the harbour

Oh, those days when you could take off for a week or two to a distant, tropical island.

Just to relax, enjoy walking and sightseeing, sun and salty sea, fresh air, good food and drinks. And some unique features islands are famous for.

Vanuatu is an island state in the South Pacific, originally Melanesian, but later dominions under France and UK. As an independent state, it has kept the use of French language in a local pidgin dialect and in some of the written signs and some inspirations to local cuisine. The practical, useful stuff like technology, laws and infrastructure is of anglosaxian design and type.

The combination makes a stay here, at least if you choose a homestay with the kind and nice locals, a rather pleasant one. But there are those ordinary hotels and larger resorts for that kind of tourists, too.

Keep up dreaming of life in the South Pacific

Being the largest body of ocean on the planet, the Pacific has its own tune.
It is deep, rumbling, and even on a sunny, relaxing day, it is a low, calming, background sound.

Even in this southern part named the Coral Sea.

Sitting and watching boats go by, the endless sky meeting the endless ocean in the horizon, reflecting on how the traveller spirit is basically human behaviour. We were meant to reach out, explore and move, meet and embrace, from our human origin in East Africa a couple of million years ago.

And sometimes just stop, and enjoy moments like this.

Winter in the pacific, the flamboyant royal poinciana gives a natural holiday-vibe

Having spent one of many December solstices abroad, the poinciana definitively reminds a Northerner of the traditional yule/xmas-celebrations.

In Vanuatu there where a lot of them, really making the islands a perfect spot for a winter break.

This tree, originally from Madagascar, are spread all over the zone where the global travellers of old needed a heavy spot of lively colours.
