Menschen am Sonntag [People on Sunday, a Film Without Actors] (Robert Siodmak, Edgar G. Ulmer, Rochus Gliese, Curt Siodmak + Fred Zinnemann, 1929)
#Berliners rest on Sunday, we still do. People lounge in the many parks, and on the shores of the city's many lakes. And then, it's Monday.

The Pirates of Capri (1949) is an Edgar G. Ulmer swashbuckling pirate romantic adventure shot in Italy, with Louis Hayward playing a variation on Zorro. Not what you expect from Ulmer but it's energetic and fun. And he had a decent budget.

On October 28, 1972, The Black Cat and The Walking Dead were screened as a double-feature on Creature Features. Here’s some original Boris Karloff art inspired by both horror classics!

Necrophilia, satanism, incest, torture, modern architecture, #TheBlackCat has it all. But wait, there’s more! The film stars the two titans of golden era Universal horror, #BorisKarloff and #BelaLugosi, and it’s directed by the most promising filmmaker #EdgarGUlmer, whose career took a fateful turn in the aftermath. — #CineMastodon #FilmMastodon

Film noir doesn't get any better than Edgar G. Ulmer’s bleak masterpiece of cinematic deception Detour (1945). Everything is against this poor schmuck. That's his story and he's sticking to it. Watch out for dames with claws.

Detour (1945)

According to legend Edgar G. Ulmer’s Detour was made for peanuts (some claim the budget was as low as $30,000) and shot in around six days....

Hannibal (1959), a late Edgar G. Ulmer film. Surprisingly, a lavish costume epic with no less than 12,000 extras in the battle scenes. A good movie but could have been a great one if the studio had allowed Ulmer to make it the way he wanted to.
