In 1882, Edward Drinker Cope named and described Edaphosaurus, based on a crushed skull and lower jaw.

In 1886, Cope erected the new genus Naosaurus for skeletal remains similar to Dimetrodon.

In 1907, Ermine Cowles Case suggested that the Edaphosaurus skull belonged to Naosaurus skeletons.

In 1910 a new skeleton was found with a skull and body together.

In 1913, Samuel Wendell Williston and Case synonymized Naosaurus and Edaphosaurus.

Oh look, its two new mini-builds added to the Permian era stuff,

Granted, I started the poll for best dinosaur that included the Edaphosaurus as a joke vote, with clear indication that it's not a dinosaur, but still.

I think that xkcd comic may be right. Someone was wrong on the internet.
