@SecondUniverse The batteries are a large investment. I have 6 KWh battery from #ecoflow which seems pretty feature rich. Supposedly, it will power my entire house if I wire it in that way, which I have not. I also have smaller batteries from them which I use all the time to offset using the grid.
I also have their solar panels which are not the most cost effective, but I can install them myself since all the solar companies in my city of a million people have ghosted me.
again, none of this is cheap, but watching power being captured from the sky and stored for later use makes you a believer and make a small system worth it if the grid is unstable.
I have a well and sump pump so I have this system for water management when the power is out.
