I conclude that the empty new warehouse built on the old footprint of Eastland Mall less than a mile from me is far from the only giant warehouse built on spec in recent years around the country.
I am troubled by the fact that it’s less than 2 miles from Detroit City Airport. I think I’ll drive by tomorrow and see if they have a tenant yet.
How Six Volunteers and One Very Heavy Sculpture Made The Day
Last weekend was our opening day with over 35 people – then today another 25+ showed up! From moving our 600-pound “Watermelon Man” sculpture with six determined volunteers to celebrating Jeff’s 40th birthday with homemade cake and a custom portrait of his dog, this Saturday had everything. We launched our first produce stand of the season (6+ pounds of radishes!), filled new U-pick beds, and proved once again that when community comes together, amazing things happen. I think we are actually dodging most of the buckshot of this storm here on the east side of #Detroit. It was coming down as blinding horizontal (westbound) slush around 4PM, melting mostly as it landed. We did get about an inch since it started to stick, but it also slowed down a lot. And it is still slightly above freezing.

#Eastpointe HS is on lockdown after a #threat was made on #SocialMedia.
"Local and regional police departments are currently at the school and have decided to go classroom to classroom to search all students and classrooms," said Eastpointe Community Schools in a statement early Wednesday afternoon. "Students are currently safely locked down in the building. There is no threat to any other district schools."

Roughly a dozen police officers from multiple depts across #MacombCounty #Michigan are at #Eastpointe HS.
The incident started around 12:30PM EDT Wed. The school is at 15501 Couzens Ave. At one point, two police officers were posted at one of the school's entrance w/their weapons drawn.
Eastpointe PD declined to provide details. Officers from Eastpointe, Warren & St. Clair Shores are on scene.
