Eastnor Castle is a grand, 19th-century revival castle located near Ledbury in Herefordshire, England. Built between 1812 and 1820, it was designed by architect Robert Smirke, best known for his work on the British Museum. The castle’s architectural style is inspired by medieval fortresses, complete with imposing towers, a massive stone facade, and a surrounding moat, though its purpose was primarily decorative and residential rather than defensive.

Eastnor is well-known for its grand interiors, extensive grounds, and scenic views, and it’s often used for events, weddings, and film settings. It’s a privately owned castle but is open to the public on certain days, offering visitors the chance to explore the stunning estate and its historical ambiance.

Eastnor Castle was commissioned by John Cocks, 1st Earl Somers, between 1812 and 1820. Cocks was a wealthy landowner and politician who wanted a grand home that reflected his status and the Gothic aesthetic popular in the early 19th century.
The castle was built on the existing estate of the Somers family, who had connections to the land since the 16th century. Eastnor was intended to serve as both a family home and a symbol of the Somers family's power and prestige.
