I think it might be one of my favourites.Squirrel on a Tree — A curious gray squirrel pauses on a tree trunk, appearing to survey its surroundings. These agile rodents, known as Eastern Gray Squirrels (Sciurus carolinensis), are common throughout the southeastern United States. The squirrel's sharp claws provide a secure grip as it explores its arboreal habitat.

Caught in the Cling
This little eastern gray squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) keeps an eye on me and Charlie, especially as she tries to sneak up to a nearby bird feeder. She had only a few seconds before Charlie spotted her and rushed toward the hole under the fence. By then, she’d already escaped to the other side—perhaps with a nut or two.

A Tale of Backyard Tails
An eastern gray squirrel and a mourning dove met near the Hole Under the Fence early this morning. Both were drawn by seeds scattered across the ground. For a few cautious minutes, they shared the bounty—coexistence as a quiet condition of the moment.
But they both knew the problem: Charlie, the border collie, stationed just thirty meters away and already alerted to the squirrel’s presence.
Charlie, as we know, lives peacefully with the doves. They’re part of the landscape, part of the rhythm. But squirrels? Squirrels are a breach. According to Charlie, they don’t belong in the backyard—or anywhere else within his line of sight. So he makes it his business to run them down. The chase is ritual. He rarely catches one, and when he does, he lets it go. No explanation offered. None needed.
At this tense juncture, Charlie charged. The squirrel slipped back beneath the Hole Under the Fence. The dove took flight, settling in a nearby tree. The seeds remained, but the moment was gone.
Step into a world where even the smallest moments—like the glint in a bird's eye—tell their own story.

Good morning. 🐿️🐿️🐿️
6 August 2025
Yesterday, I finally took the time to mount my new bird feeder atop the post in the middle of the yard. I shored up the post with some short cedar pieces I picked up from Lowe’s ages ago. Funny thing—they’ve been sitting in the backyard shed for years, just waiting for me to get around to it. Kind of like the computer behind me, close enough to touch, with a new fan ready to be installed. I procrastinate sometimes.
Truth is, I take my leisure time more seriously than I used to. My philosophy? If you own a recliner, you’d better use it—otherwise, it’s just going to waste. That’s an important truth, straight from the Drama Llama.

Squirrel on the Roof
This morning, I stepped out the backdoor and spotted a little eastern gray squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis) sunning itself on the roof of my backyard shed. It must have leapt there from a nearby tree, perhaps drawn by the warmth of the roof. The chilly morning air made it the perfect spot to soak up some heat.
