Eastern cottontail paused on a stone, forepaws raised as it grooms among dry oak leaves 🐇 Whiskers forward, ears upright, blending into the woodland floor. #EasternCottontail #WildlifePhotography #Mammals #Nature
An Eastern Cottontail pauses on a leaning tree trunk, ears alert and body tucked in tight among dense green leaves. The layered foliage frames its rounded form and adds depth without distracting from the subject.

An Eastern cottontail pauses mid-forage, rising to scan the woods before disappearing back into the leaf litter. Small moments like this are easy to miss unless you slow down and watch.

TIL an interesting and disgusting fact! Which means you all get to learn it too. Eastern Cottontail rabbits have to go through an extensive digestive process to actually get all the calories from their food. So they eat the food, then poop out a greenish mucus-colored blob, and then eat the blob so that their bodies can go Round 2 on the food. Anything indigestible is pooped out as hard pellets (an entirely different kind of poop). Thanks, Cambridge Day! #TheMoreYouKnow #rabbits #EasternCottontail

Eastern Cottontail (Sylvilagus floridanus). Cottontails are solitary animals except during breeding season. Most often seen at dawn or dusk. Sometimes they will stand on their hind legs to look for predators.

In my garden, they are mostly fearless and my blind, elderly dog walks right by them without knowing they are there.
