Un team di scienziati ha analizzato oltre 6 milioni di chilometri quadrati in sette paesi dell’Africa orientale e centrale, per identificare i caratteristici segni bianchi lasciati dagli escrementi degli uccelli sotto i loro nidi. Questo studio ha portato alla scoperta di 232 potenziali siti di nidificazione, principalmente situati in Sudan, Sud Sudan e Ciad.
Questa specie ha subito un calo di oltre il 90% negli ultimi quarant’anni. A team of scientists analyzed over 6 million square kilometers in seven countries of Eastern and Central Africa, to identify the characteristic white markings left by the birds’ droppings beneath their nests. This study led to the discovery of 232 potential nesting sites, primarily located in Sudan, South Sudan and Chad.
This species has experienced a decline of over 90% in the last forty years. Knowing exactly where Rüppell's vultures nest can help conservationists implement protective measures. However, finding the remaining colonies of these birds in such a vast area presents a huge challenge.
