AGI - Il grande giorno è arrivato. Un anno dopo la finale persa contro Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner torna agli Internazionali BNL d’Italia. Il n.1 del mondo farà il suo esordio nel primo match della sessione serale sul Campo Centrale (non prima delle 19) contro l’austriaco Sebastian Ofner (n.82). Tra i due sarà la prima sfida nel circuito maggiore. Tra i due l’unico precedente risale al lontano 2019: Sinner vinse in due set la partita al Challenger di Ortisei.

C’è attesa anche per gli altri azzurri, con Flavio Cobolli, Andrea Pellegrino e Mattia Bellucci al maschile e Jasmine Paolini in campo per il suo match di terzo turno. La campionessa in carica, n.8 al mondo e n.9 del tabellone, scenderà in campo nel secondo match diurno sul Centrale, non prima delle 13, contro la belga Elise Mertens (n.22 WTA e testa di serie n.21). Quest’ultima è avanti 5-1 negli scontri diretti, con la toscana che si è aggiudicata l’ultimo (sull’erba di Eastbourne nel 2024) usufruendo del ritiro dell’avversaria.

ATP - The big day has arrived. One year after losing the final against Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner returns to the Internazionali BNL d’Italia. The world No. 1 will make his debut in the first match of the evening session on Centre Court (not before 7 pm) against Austrian Sebastian Ofner (No. 82). It will be their first encounter on the ATP Tour. The only previous match between them dates back to 2019: Sinner won the match in two sets at the Ortisei Challenger.

There is also anticipation for the other Italians, with Flavio Cobolli, Andrea Pellegrino, and Mattia Bellucci in the men’s draw and Jasmine Paolini in action for her third-round match. The defending champion, world No. 8 and No. 9 seed, will play her second afternoon match on Centre Court (not before 1 pm) against Belgian Elise Mertens (No. 22 WTA and No. 21 seed). The latter is ahead 5-1 in their head-to-head record, with the Tuscan having won the last one (on the Eastbourne grass in 2024) thanks to her opponent’s retirement.
