Trump-Appointed Federal Commission Speeds Through Approval Of Massive New White House Ballroom

The Commission of Fine Arts gave the greenlight, even though it was expected to do so next month.

Deadline

The meeting was supposed to only be on the design, with a final vote expected next month. But the chair, Rodney Mims Cook Jr., made a motion to also vote on final approval, & 6 of 7 “commissioners” who were all installed by #Trump since the start of the year voted in favor twice. One commissioner, James McCrery, did not vote because he was the initial architect on the project.

Trump's White House ballroom is approved by federal arts panel

A federal panel made up of President Donald Trump's appointees has approved his plan to build a massive ballroom on the site of the former White House East Wing. The U.S. Commission of Fine Arts is one of two federal agencies that must approve Trump’s plans. The National Capital Planning Commission, which has jurisdiction over construction and major renovation to government buildings in the region, is also reviewing the project. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has sued in federal court to halt construction. A decision in the case is pending.
