Pets:
Pets needing sheltering may be taken to the Potter League for Animals, located at 87 Oliphant Ln, Middletown, RI. The potter league closes at 5:00 PM daily. If emergency pet sheltering is needed call (401) 846-8276 during and after normal work hours.

NEW: Starting on 9/17 at 10 p.m. and lasting until 11 a.m. on 9/23, #RIDOT will close a section of Waterfront Dr in #EastProvidence at the I-195 overpass for bridge deck and beam demolition of the old Washington Bridge.

During the closure, drivers will be directed to follow a short detour using Valley St, which runs parallel to Waterfront Dr. Motorists should be aware that a short section of Valley St will have a gravel riding surface.

RIDOT also will continue the evening closures of Gano St at the I-195 overpass next week, Sunday through Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. However, jackhammering operations are expected to end by mid-week at Gano St.

NEW: #RIDOT is planning to open a new segment of the roundabout near the Henderson Bridge in #EastProvidence that will provide a direct connection to North Broadway. RIDOT intends to open this connection tomorrow afternoon, 5/31, prior to the evening rush hour.

This change will utilize the old Henderson Expressway, and is the final leg of the roundabout to open.

NEW: #RIDOT will begin changing the traffic pattern on I-195E over the Washington Bridge in #EastProvidence to provide three lanes of through travel. RIDOT will restripe the highway during the evening and overnight hours on 4/9. The change will be in effect for the morning commute on 4/10.

RIDOT is making these change to reduce congestion and decrease travel times for both directions of I-195 affected by the closure of the Washington Bridge westbound. There will be no change at this time for I-195W, which will still have two lanes of travel.

With the change for eastbound travelers, drivers can expect:

* The left and center lanes will be reduced to 10 feet wide, and trucks will be restricted to the far-right lane, which will be 11 feet wide. RIDOT will post signage that trucks must use the far-right lane only.
* The speed limit on I-195E will be reduced to 40 mph.
* Drivers should stay in their lane and refrain from any distractions.

NEW: #RIDOT will be shifting the crossover point for westbound traffic on I-195 in #EastProvidence a half-mile closer to the Washington Bridge during the overnight hours Monday, April 8. The change will be complete before the morning commute on Tuesday, April 9. At this time, there will still be two lanes of travel westbound and eastbound.

Drivers will not need to adjust their route. They need to stay in their lanes through the new crossover to the eastbound side of I-195, following the reduced 40 mph speed limit. This change creates a work zone so RIDOT can continue construction necessary to fully implement the three-lane configuration later this month. The Department is on schedule to complete this work on or before April 22.
