“Our government has failed to denounce the suppression of #democracy. Our government has failed to denounce #atrocities… Our government has evidenced what many will consider moral bankruptcy.” – Archer Blood, American diplomat, April 6, 1971.

Blinken urges united future Palestinian government for Gaza and West Bank, widening gulf with Israel

Secretary of State Antony Blinken is calling for a united and Palestinian-led government for Gaza and the West Bank after the war ends, as a step toward Palestinian statehood. That vision sharpens U.S. differences with Israel on what the future should look like for the Palestinian territories once Israel’s military campaign against Hamas winds down. Blinken's outline of what Americans think should come next for Gaza also serves as a check on more authoritarian postwar scenarios floated by officials of Israel’s hard-right government. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s statement Monday that Israel’s military would likely maintain security control for an “indefinite period” appears to have heightened U.S. concerns. Blinken spoke to reporters on Wednesday.

⬆️ #Hamas is unambiguously a #terrorist organization. #Blinken reaffirmed that #Palestinians must not be forcibly displaced after Hamas is booted out of #Gaza.

It runs counter to post-WWII order where unlike post-WWI order, we decided to move people, not borders.

#Israel could find itself sandwiched between hostile areas, as happened in 1947 with #India between #Pakistan and #EastPakistan (now Bangladesh)

>> "Making Gaza a Palestine country, incorporating the West Bank into Gaza, with Gaza being given substantial land expansion for giving up the West Bank"

Post-WWI, we moved borders. Post-WWII, we decided to keep borders fixed, & move people instead. Thus, we saw mass movement of #Hindus and #Muslims across the #India-#Pakistan borders (plural) in 1947.

Seems like you propose shifting both borders and people. That would alleviate the #EastPakistan-#Bangladesh situation.
