London is the capital and largest city of both England and the United Kingdom, with a population of 9.1 million people in 2024. Its wider metropolitan area is the largest in Western Europe, with a population of 15.1 million. London stands on the River Thames in southeast England, at the head of a 50-mile (80 km) tidal estuary down to the North Sea, and has been a major settlement for nearly 2,000 years. Its ancient core and financial centre, the City of London, was founded by the Romans as Londinium and has retained its medieval boundaries. The City of Westminster, to the west of the City of London, has been the centuries-long host of the national government and parliament. London grew rapidly in the 19th century, becoming the world's largest city at the time. Since the 19th century the name "London" has referred to the metropolis around the City of London, historically split between the counties of Middlesex, Essex, Surrey, Kent and Hertfordshire, which since 1965 has largely comprised the administrative area of Greater London, governed by 33 local authorities and the Greater London Authority.

On April 6, 1980, the #Canadian #Farmworkers #Union came into existence. This film documents the conditions among #Chinese and #EastIndian #ImmigrantWorkers in #BritishColumbia that provoked the formation of the union, and the response of growers and #labour contractors to the threat of #unionization. Made over a period of two years, the #documentary film is eloquent testimony to the progress of the #WorkersMovement from the first stirrings of militancy to the energetic canvassing of union members.

A Time to Rise

Got up rather late and a certain family member I won't name was hogging the stove, so I went out for #breakfast/ #brunch at #McDonalds.

As soon as I sat down to eat, the two #OldWhiteMen sitting next to me started going off about #Muslims and "#Religiousextremists."

I'm a middle aged #white #catholic myself, but most of the staff were #EastIndian. I feel bad for them.

Another day in the paradise that is #RedneckAlberta.

#EastIndian community who gave him #AntiRacism award in #Vancouver / #SurreyBC should be #ashamed of themselves but they don't care about #Indigenous #humanrights & I #LostRespect for their #capitalist assn. after seeing their #colonizer buttkissing BS 💩

Phew!

Hello, it's just me, bringing you some foot-tapping East Indian music (and traditionally garbed EI ladies dancing to it) today.

We call upbeat songs like these 'ऊरती गानी/urti gaani' in our mother tongue East Indian Marathi and they are hands down extremely wholesome and fun to dance to!

(P.S. Not sure if anyone can view the video, so I'll also share a link to its IG post here: https://www.instagram.com/p/B5Ca-u7pHMu/)
