Holidays back home in #EastFrisa
Hello 👋 North Sea
On vacation (back home) in #EastFrisa. Visited the 13th century church of Engerhafe on a rainy day (I‘m a sucker for #medieval brick architecture). Prior to the 14th century when the warring East Frisian chieftains started to built stronghouses and castles, the churches were the only structures built from stone. The church shows a mix of Romanesque and Gothic architecture of Engerhafe lay within the territory of the powerful chiefly family tom Brok. 1/x
Holidays back home in #EastFrisa
Just arrived. Met some old friends at an open air jazz concert in Emden. Now it‘s time for staying at the cabin by the lake and watching ducks 🦆

I’m on vaccation back home in #EastFrisa. Rented out a holiday flat on the tiny island of Baltrum, spending time with a good old friend. Next days will be all about long walks at the beach, reading #ttrpg books (#BrindlewoodBay, #shadowdarkrpg, #WorldsWithoutNumber), and playing boardgames. Right now, I’m listening to the excellent DM of None Podcast (ep 265) on Shadowdark, while having Coffee. Outside: seagulls ❤️

Last day 🥲 of my mini vacation back home in #EastFrisa / #Ostfriesland. Visited the remains of the late medieval/early modern fortress of #Leerort. A few earthen embankments at the confluence of the rivers Leda and Ems is all that remained from the once mighty defense works. Originally built by the city-state of Hamburg to hold Frisian chieftains and piracy at bay, Leerort later came into the possession of the chiefly Circena family and was extended throughout the 16th century #CastleContent
Long weekend in Leer (#EastFrisa). The early 19th Mennonite church looks a bit like a house-sized mimic #pnpde #dnd #osr
Weekend in #EastFrisa / #Ostfriesland: tombstone of some noble dude (Ortgiess von Wasabe, 1563-1617 CE) on the old cemetery in Leer. Detailed depiction of early modern plate mail. If you‘re into early moderns weaponry and armour, i highly recommend to visit the #Rüstkammer in the nearby city of #Emden. It holds an absolutely amazing collection of late 16th/early 17th #weaponry. Large parts of the collection stem from Emden‘s militia from c. 1600 CE. A unique collection.
Spending a long weekend back home in #EastFrisa / #Ostfriesland 🐑 Started the day with a walk through the streets of #Leer
On vacation in #EastFrisa: in the small town of #Leer, we found a small and super cozy bookstore which also sells a small selection of #ttrpgs. And not just Corporate #dnd, but also #ForbiddenLands, some story games, #TalesFromTheLoop. Astonishing. It has been decades that I stumbled upon #ttrpgs in a normal bookshop
