So the stone skimming world championships were held yesterday in #Easdale. I must go spectate some time - it’s such a wonderful place, and the competition looks brilliant.
Not much coverage of this year’s competition online just yet - I think the party is pretty serious!
We visited Easdale earlier this year, and it’s wonderful. Gorgeous all on its own, and the #StoneSkimming is heavenly! I may perhaps have added an #ampersand to the hallowed skimming spot…

The view towards the island of Seil, south-west of Oban in Argyll, from the summit of the remarkable slate island of Easdale, one of the most unique places in Scotland. It has no cars (only wheelbarrows), no roads and no street lamps. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/easdale/easdale/index.html

One of the strangest images I have encountered was from a set from #Easdale island.
It was of a Ford Poplar, which had been found in one of the island's many slate pits (all flooded now).
What makes this so strange is - the island has no roads, and when I went there, the only way was by ferry, and that was a hand-rowed boat.
OK, sensible hat on here - it wasn't always like that. Easdale was a profitable commercial venture up until the time when roofing tiles replaced slate, so - it's poss.

‘This time, she said she hoped to become the first woman to hit the back wall of the quarry at the #Easdale - 63m (206ft) away from the starting point.’ #stoneskimming 🏴🏴🤝
Backlit by the afterglow of the already set sun, the bulk of Dùn Mòr looms over the small settlement of Ellenabeich. Venus, at the left of the image is also reflected in a flooded, long abandoned, slate quarry.
A VIRTUAL TOUR OF SCOTLAND
We travel north by boat again, this time less than three miles to the island of Easdale, and island literally shaped by long-ceased slate mining. This is one of the most unique places in Scotland with no cars, no roads and no street lamps: only wheelbarrows for carrying belongings around.
