Oh hey, it's time to merge threads!

As much as they can be merged anyway. So click the link below for the answer to this, and continue through that thread until the end.

End of the Year Drama Challenge: 2023 [Current branch: For Now] Day 13: A drama you found boring When it comes to vampire media, there's a lot of tedium and mediocrity I'm willing to overlook. However, two dramas that I found too boring to bear: Love at First Taste, and Vampire Flower. I was kinder to Vampire Flower, giving it a 3.5 out of 10 on MDL. Love at First Taste, I gave a 1. I don't even know why it was titled that, bc iirc, no biting even happened? #CDrama #KDrama

Day 12: A platonic relationship that you loved

It's a bit of a spoiler to say how, why and when this is so, but Yiwa and Sailom in #WeddingPlan

They're two mischievous troublemakers making trouble for each other while making more trouble for whoever they collectively have their trouble-making sights on.

This happens in the very first episode, actually. And in the trailer.

They're also both masters of the "get out of jail free" pout.

Day 11: A drama that kept you riveted
Easy: both #Enigma and #KisekiDearToMe.

In Enigma, the mystery kept me hooked, though the characters also held my interest.

In Kiseki: Dear to Me -- while there are mystery... components, it's not a mystery plot. It's more like they're trying to figure different things out at points.

But, really what hooked me was how all of the relationships (platonic and otherwise) were developed. And how all the conflicts that had happened would play out.

Day 10: Did you rewatch a drama in 2023?
Funny you should ask. I just mentioned it.

Actually, I sort of rewatch all the shows I watch. As in, I'll go back and rewatch some of my favorite moments. Myeol Mang tormenting that terrible father never gets old, for example.

As for rewatching a whole series, beginning to end? Less frequent. This year, however, I did rewatch Manner of Death with @norgralin . (It was also his first BL, Thai or otherwise.)

Day 9: A drama from another year you watched in 2023

I went into 2020's Manner of Death expecting one thing. Thought I was getting another, and then realized I was getting exactly what I wanted.

#MaxTul's chemistry is, as usual, off the charts. Potentially dangerous and absolutely smitten is a good role for Max, and I hope he has more chances to explore that and other archetypes, despite Tul leaving the industry.

Day 8: Standout secondary character of 2023

So, the drama is from 2022, but I saw it in 2023, anyway.

Khett from Dear Doctor I'm Coming For Soul. He has some of the best lines in the show, and as the beleaguered senior soul reaper, watching his junior be smitten over a doctor has both its comic gold, and sincere moments.

(Also I forgot how cute this show is.)

*coughs* you saw nothing, this is totally on time...
Day 19: A drama that made you laugh.

Most dramas make me laugh. They're emotionally varied that way.

But the one that comes immediately to mind, is #OhNoHereComesTrouble for its consistently sharp humor. With timing, physical acting, and great lines, it's the funniest drama I saw in 2023.

Honorable mention goes to #KinnPorsche for Porsche being a complete and utter gremlin.

Day 31: Favourite drama of 2023?

Limiting it to 2023 dramas that I saw, I will pick "Destined with You."

I love the high contrast of physical comedy with serial killers - when it's done well. I love trying to figure out the mystery - even if I have to suffer while waiting for the past lives to be revealed. I loved the symbolism & the cinematography.

But probably the thing that made it the best for me was viewing it via a watchparty with new kDrama friends from Mastodon (Fediverse) that I made this year. They caught things I didn't, gave me different perspectives, & made me LOL a lot. The joint viewing was the icing on the cake that made this drama my favourite of the 2023 dramas I saw.

Lighter & Princess

My first review of it:

Wow, I think this was one of my favorite cdramas EVER. Seriously. It is so well done. The acting from being freshmen in college, to seniors in college, to late 20s adults really shows the difference in their hair, clothing, personalities. For 36 episodes, it didn't feel like any of it was filler. Each character was multi-faceted, with no true all-good or all-evil. Great chemistry between the leads. Great storytelling on multiple plot lines of how the naivety and optimism of youth can diverge as success enters the picture. Great discussion of discrimination against people with criminal backgrounds re-entering society. And profitability of sexism?

Great discussion of discrimination against people with criminal backgrounds re-entering society. And profitability of sexism? I have a minor quibble with time-line as I think the incident causing the male lead to go to jail was in January but the event that drove him to it was in March? My first opinion of the female lead was meh, but she really shown through the whole series and made me fall in love with her long before the end.

Day 30: Was 2023 a good rama year for you?

The *** best *** so far!!!!
(Since it's my first full year being a kDrama fan - it's easy to say it's the best)

What's great about kDrama?

1) kDrama has been shown to be good for depression

2) A great kDrama (& other Asian drama) community in the Fediverse (Mastodon)

3) Great art leads to more great art - dramas/film led to music

4) Learned to cook some Korean dishes

5) Started learning the Korean language
