Tomorrow is family road trip day! 1000 km Scuol (CH) -> Amsterdam (NL) with a pitstop in Heidelberg halfway, (some family members taking the train on Monday). The way here was extremely comfortable in two days, tomorrow will be more exciting/demanding/challenging (!?) Definitely one of my fav vehicles I ever rented, hopefully not my last time! Will report back after the trip, I had my dad install the IONITY app on the way south, well that was not something I'd recommend anyone on their first EV roadtrip! We also used his Fastned Gold membership at one of my fav locations in all of Europe, but that membership will probably have to be cancelled since loyal customers aren't rewarded by Fastned anymore?! Oh, and for all the complaints about EA software, the Tesla experience was far from error-free.
Aside from various app errors, and sluggish performance, plug & charge failed on two different chargers in two different locations. Had to start from the app, though for the first I gave up and went to a nearby EA.
Also, if using the app to start, the procedure is the opposite to EA. For Tesla, start the session in the app & then plug into the car.
Aside from an annoyingly long delay at Indio, we didn’t do to badly. 13 hours of driving, about an hour charging & an hour delay waiting at Indio. 785 miles covered. Highest power was just 195 kW (at the last charger). Slowest was the Tesla supercharger at Quartzite, but even then it was much better than waiting for the EA one.

After tackling the traditional severed human toe in our whiskey in Dawson City we start the 500mi dirt road Dempster Highway to the Arctic Ocean with less projected EV range than distance left to the next charger. 😬
On our last #EVroadtrip it occurred to me that I would be totally screwed if anything happened to my phone.
So just back from this summer's 4000km EV road trip. A big loop from the west coast out through the prairies and back on the northern route.
The trip was a breeze this year. Noticeably more chargers available (never had to wait) and, more importantly, fewer busted chargers!
The Tesla charging network is now open to other makes and this is a real game changer. I fully understand all the shade thrown at Tesla these days but damn if they don't have the best chargers. Fast, plentiful, reliable. This is how its supposed to be.
