Tens of thousands are gathering in Hungary's capital for the 31st annual Budapest Pride. This is the first LGBTQ+ march since former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who tried to ban the event, was ousted in April. The march began Saturday afternoon as temperatures soared to 38 C (100 F) amid a record-breaking heat wave. Organizers distributed water bottles, and the city's public water utility opened fountains along the route. Participants danced and waved rainbow flags, and one said the mood has become more relaxed since Orbán's government, which implemented anti-LGBTQ+ policies, was defeated. The new government has not repealed the Orbán-era legislation that outlawed Pride, but police authorized the event this year.
