ASML increased its EUV light source power to 1,000 watts from 600 watts by doubling tin droplet rates to 100,000 per second. The company projects this could boost wafer throughput 50% by 2030 - from 220 to 330 wafers per hour - without requiring new cleanroom facilities. Meanwhile, US and Chinese competitors pursue alternatives with significant funding backing.
ASML basically said: more EUV photons, fewer excuses. Reuters reports it can boost its EUV light source from 600W to 1,000W and target ~330 wafers/hour by decade’s end (up from 220) — potentially ~50% more chips. That’s not a parlor trick, it’s a laser-powered cat purr 😼
