The official EU petition to ration aviation CO2 died today. It got 7,278 signatures out of 1 mio.
France: 5,116 which is 9% of the required.
Germany: 478, which is 0.7% of the required.

On the same day as the aviation CO2-petition, one about computer games launched as well. It reached the quorum of 1mio signatures across the 27 member states in a very short time.

If it weren't yet clear to me that our our neoliberal society is going to self-destruct due to dynamics among us normal people– now confirmed anew – I would start shamelessly posting EU-Petitions I am interested in in reply to such toots with highly frequented petitions.

Despite being someone who at least used to consider themselves a gamer, and someone who's subscribed to Ross Scott's Accursed Farms YouTube channel, we were completely unaware of the Stop Killing Games campaign and petitions until today 😅🤦‍♀️

We only just learnt about it after watching a video by Bellular News entitled "Stop Killing Games Was Doomed. Now It Can't Be Stopped" 🎮

The EU poll ("Stop Destroying Videogames") has now reached the necessary 1 million signatures before its end date of 2025-07-31, but if you do live in the EU and haven't signed it yet, more signatures will give the petition a buffer in case any are invalidated 🇪🇺

And if you've already signed it, then signal boosting the campaign to friends, family, and followers across the fediverse will very much help the cause ✊

Von den nötigen 67000 deutschen Mitzeichnenden haben seit Juni 2024 erst 173 unterschrieben.

Lasst diese höchst Klima-relevante Petition nicht so enden, wie alle andern vorher. Geht ganz schnell! ✍️

Hier sieht die Mitzeichnung etwas besser aus. Von den deutschen notwendigen 67,680 haben bereits 44% unterschrieben.
Aber es fehlen noch 37,000 und insgesamt noch 700,000.

Official petition to the EU Commission to enact tradable personal annual CO2 credits specifically for air travel, starting with
500kg CO2 and declining x% each year.
500kg =~2300km, Frankfurt-Oslo return.

(see this good CO2calculator by German EPA Umweltbundesamt https://uba.co2-rechner.de/de_DE/mobility-flight-calculator#panel-calc)

These aviation credits for 500kg CO2 are handed to households at the beginning of the first year.
Each year thereafter, the credits decline by x% – unless climate-neutral fuels become available.
Leftover credits can be traded.

I like when you sell your leftovers, you can't use the money for flying.

Apparently, the petition was originally proposed in France for French household's general carbon use, where it proposed starting at 9t credits and by declining 6% every year, ending at 2t in 2050. https://register.eci.ec.europa.eu/core/api/register/document/11165

2t in 2050 is a lot, considering each ton has to be removed by negative emission tech...
