Carlo Buontempo, Director of the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) @ECMWF emphasises how the global average temperature exceeded 1.5°C over a three-year period (2023–2025) – the first time in the #ERA5 record – bringing us closer to the Paris Agreement threshold.

So. This is a nice visualisation tool to play with! Both #ERA5 and @esaclimate.bsky.social datasets visualised for the whole world in a beautiful interface. It would be fantastic to see it updated for the last 10 years. #SciViz www.lexcube.org

Question: Is anyone here familiar with the #ERA5 dataset used for the climate data at #OpenMeteo ?

I intend to use it for the local elections for my local #Green Party chapter, by visualizing local climatic changes. And I need to be ready for arguments on the lines of:

"This data is interpolated, therefore not real and thus can be dismissed!"

Thus, if there are any good, accessible explanations that summarize how the dataset was created, I would appreciate it. Bonus points if they are in German!

I've been following the news about discontinuing #NOAA data with sadness and apprehension. This is all very messed up.

Currently I rely heavily on #nasapower #gpm and #chirps data for monitoring agroclimatic risks. So I have two questions:

1) How are those data affected by those NOAA cuts?

2) Even if the data is not affected, I'm considering substituting those sources. What are some candidates? For NasaPower, #era5 looks like a good candidate. What about precipitation? Any jaxa products?

@ZLabe can you notice any signals in the #ERA5 sea ice? It's switched to an AMSR2 derived product as of the start of the month
