Must be touching 45,000+ at Wembley for L2 play-off #WIMWAL. (Be the largest L2 since Coventry-Exeter in 2018, 50k). Wembley will have hosted 200,000 fans for the three #EFLPlayoffs. Shows the depth of passion for the game in this country and the importance of #EFL/pyramid.
#SAFC can’t help falling in love with the Premier League. Plenty to discuss on the Sunday Edition @[email protected] 10-12UK inc #EFLPlayoffs “Every Minute Matters” campaign with Tom Lockyer, Johnnie Jackson + #AFC women’s 🏆, race for European qualification and Grealish, Garnacho, xG?
I gave a Sunderland fan a lift back up the A1 last night. Very happy journey. Huge pride in the young players, the team, club, manager and the support who never lost the faith. #SAFC #EFLPlayOffs

What a game, what an ending, what a story and what a finish from Tom Watson. Sunderland teenager, whose name was not even on the back of the programme, who’s off to Brighton, scored deep in injury time to settle the Championship play-off final, aka “the £200m match”.  So young, so calm when his team needed that composure most. What this means to the club, the city. Everything.

What a turnaround, the classic game of two halves. United the better side first half. Sunderland had to draw on deep resilience and their subs. Lost O’Nien with a dislocated shoulder (8). Poignant moment as O’Nien helped around pitch, signalling to his wife and young daughter who came down to console him. Sunderland subdued for a half, fans nervous. United devastating on the counter to take lead (24). Sunderland couldn’t handle Hamer, his pace and precise pass. Campbell confident dinked finish - a finish his late, much-loved father Kevin would have been proud of. United frustration at Burrows disallowed goal (34).

Sunderland took time to cope with United pressing, physicality and height. United had their chances. Patterson made some good saves. Sunderland gradually more assertive second half. Better tempo. Fans responded. Le Bris subs worked. Roberts, Isidor, Watson all made a difference. Roberts brought control and ideas. His clever pass sent Mayenda in, unstoppable finish (76). Sunderland subs down the line to join the celebrations. O’Nien joined in, arm in a sling. 82,718 crowd announced. Extra time beckoned, surely? But Sunderland believed, they went again, they exploited a Moore mistake and Watson finished (90+5). Pandemonium. O’Nien lifted trophy one-handed. Next stop for Sunderland the Premier League - probably via party station Trafalgar Square. #SHESUN #EFLPlayoffs
