My partner got an e-bike a 2 months ago and went from someone that rarely rides and only rides with me to someone that rides everywhere on her own. She's ridden 400km since we got the bike in December which is more than she rode in the last decade on her manual bike.

She tried an e-bike 10yrs ago but got really self-conscious about it because she thought other cyclists were looking down on her for being fat and 'cheating' at cycling.

She's now doing an 8.6km commute three days a week to her horticulture course.

Alla fine ho fatto l'investimento e comprato la bici elettrica. Un modello di qualità medio-alta, ben equipaggiato da tutti punti di vista, scelto appositamente per viaggiare. Roba che non userò in città, dove bastano i mezzi pubblici, i piedi, la mia bici normale e quelle in condivisione, all'occorrenza.

Presa sabato, subito provata domenica con un giretto di poco più di 50 km, roba che senza il supporto del motore non avrei mai potuto fare (duro solo poco più di 30 km).

Al termine ero ancora in forma e avrei potuto andare avanti ancora un po', anche se cominciava a farmi male il bacino (la sella è un punto critico ed evidentemente c'è ancora da lavorare alle impostazioni).

La bici ovviamente stava meglio di me, fosse per lei altri 160 km li avremmo potuti fare.

Per curiosità ho fatto gli ultimi 100 m a motore spento e devo dire che, una volta in moto, cammina che è una bellezza, ma certo il peso di quasi 30 kg in curva e nelle ripartenze si fa notare.

La voglia che mi si è attaccata di usarla di più, invece, mi farà solo bene. 😄

Update 8

After a couple of rainy days, did 30KM today, another hour and half effort. Getting hot and humid today, went out early so not so hot, but getting humid. Avg HR was 121, just a bit more than last time, but I'm sure it was the humidity. Hot and humid have always gotten to me.

I did find a nice headunit type app, SuperCycle Bicycle Computer (http://www.osborntech.com). Free app, no tracking, etc. Haven't figured out how to get the screen look as good as the example on the website, but maybe that is just on iOS.

So, things are really good right now.

Update 7A

Rather long ride today, 25KM at 17.1KM/hour for 1.5 hours. As this is the Midwest US, it was rather windy, tail wind out and head wind back. I know, I am not very smart. Met a couple of other satisfied Blix customers on the ride, they were towing their kids along. Beautiful day.

Now, for those who think, "Ebiking is not exercise:" I say, "Baaahh."

Had my heart rate monitor on today. Average HR over the entire time, 116 BPM. Max heart rate, 130+BPM. To put this in to some context, when I was pretty serious about biking 30 years ago -- no ebikes then! I rode a hybrid Trek on the road and considered 120-135 my aerobic zone and rode there most of my time on the bike. So on the EBike, I am basically in the same HR zone, the boost is just helping me maintain the same speed I had on a "manual" bike. 30 years later.

I don't see any problem with that. 😃

Update 4

Did in fact get the brakes sorted. The front rotor is not true, but it was that way out of the box, I now realize. Not a huge deal.

Tonight I had to wait until a small shower passed and then I went out. Along the trail, the same one I rode the other times, the bike felt a bit draggy. At not quite the furthest point from home, I realized why -- the battery died. I had to ride home about a mile and a half with a dead battery 50 pound bike. Fortunately, it is relatively flat here.

I have to say that for a guy that supposedly has a heart condition, it wasn't that bad. I figure that between the weight of the bike and me I was probably pushing as many watts as Roglic today. OK, maybe not. But other than really needing a shower arriving home, I was OK.

Now that it arrived on #WorldBicycleDay , I have to say I am extremely impressed with the Blix Vika Flex (https://blixbike.com/products/vika-electric-folding-bike).

I have to say that I have not ridden it yet (it's raining, I want to give the poor bike a break!) but everything else has been very impressive. It is built like a tank, but still weighs in some 20 pounds less than most #EBikes The parts that fold seem extremely well built. The only assembly I had to do was unpack, insert the handlebars into the headtube and screw on the pedals. Cinch.

The battery is even 80% charged right out of the box. I used my regular camera for snaps, so I'll pix later.

The only issue so far was #FedEx . To be fair the bike actually arrived one day earlier than they first said and the delivery person was great. BUT after their first guess at a delivery date, they then said it would arrive Friday (the last one, not the coming one). Waiting over the weekend was not fun and I wasn't sure it would be here today until this morning.

But the bike itself is awesome so far!
