TL;DR: missed a deadline. Fuck me.
I have been trying, between all the very maddening interruptions, to get a proposal submitted to EASP (European Association for #SocialPsychology) for our study on masculinity, masculinity threat, and US voting behavior (especially by minorities). We have the data, I have most of the analyses finished, etc.
The deadline was 15 minutes ago and I'd need another few hours, realistically. This was also the *extended *deadline. I didn't know about the conference until recently, but I suspect the deadline was already extended by a week, as often happens.
EASP is on the aggressive end of conference persnicketiness: only complete, fully analyzed projects are allowed; the presenter has to register early and super pinky swear they will show up; there are a few nonstandard details about the abstract beyond character count. So that boat has sailed.
I should have started this two weeks ago, but I didn't know about it until maybe 3 days ago, and couldn't do any work on it until yesterday (though some of the analyses have been finished for weeks; just not all the right ones). The past two days were not enough to get a proposal together.
My time management is one of the culprits here, but I would also like to nominate the following factors as instrumental in this notable deadline-miss:
I wouldn't have been able to afford a trip to #france next summer, anyway, or even the ~$500 Euro (!!!) registration fee, because my uni has fuck all for travel funds unless you're an administrator--we're predominantly a teaching school, despite admins insisting that research is a critical job-relevant activity we should be doing in all the zero time we have as they increase our teaching load.
Those are some pretty great excuses, but I still feel bad for letting my coauthor down, and it would have been a chance to get our research results out to a European audience.
Oh well. Missed opportunities are the slightly rotten smell lingering around most aspects of my life.
