Tonight's question: can I unfuck the convergence on this Samsung CRT televsion I saved from the dump.
The answer is: mostly! Geometry is still a bit wonky but most of the lines, er, line up. The convergence rings use a mechanical retainer instead of epoxy, so adjustment was actually much easier than expected (thanks 1990s Samsung engineers).
This is about the best I can do without a proper test pattern generator. TV only has an RF input, so I kinda bodged a test pattern with an HMDI to RF converter (introducing a ton of noise). But hey, it's clearly *way* better now! Interestingly, the TV housing has unused knockouts for composite video in and audio out, and there are empty spots on the board where those circuits would go... wonder if it's as easy as just populating the board? That'd be neat.
Also, more appliances should have x-ray warnings. Appliances are so lame now, all they do is listen to you having sex and sell that information to marketing companies. Bleh.
