Apparently, #Dorset has bards: “A bard is an honorary cultural role given to a local poet–storyteller who serves as a literary ambassador for the area.

Rebecca Danicic was crowned the fourth Bard of Caer Dur [Dorchester] in 2025 after winning an open competition at Dorchester’s Corn Exchange with her own writing and performances inspired by the area’s rich literary history.”

#WyrdWednesday #HillfortsWednesday: `In #IronAge Britain a settlement on #HengistburyHead was established and the headland was cut off from the mainland by the construction of two banks and ditches called the Double Dykes, similar to those found at Maiden Castle. The earthworks consisted of an inner bank three metres high, with a ditch three and a half metres deep. An outer ditch six metres wide and two metres in depth is now obscured due to wind-blown deposits of sand and a gradual silting process. These defences turned Hengistbury Head into a fortified settlement area which seems to have grown over succeeding centuries until it became an important port of the #Durotriges.` #Celtic

Discovered beneath the church in 1878, this megalithic goddess now keeps watch over the cemetery, her shape echoed in those of later tombstones"

The shape shows her breasts, the left #breast still intact, the other flaked away

Uit onderzoek van de Engelse universiteit van Bournemouth van genetisch materiaal van 57 in de late ijzertijd begraven leden van de Keltische #Durotriges stam in Zuid-Engeland blijkt dat deze stam was georganiseerd rond #vrouwen. Dit sluit aan op teksten van Romeinse schrijvers die de relatieve macht van #Keltische vrouwen opmerkelijk vonden.
