On the banks of the River Wear at Durham, by the Old Racecourse, sits this bronze sculpture of the 'Durham Ox'.
I like the way the creature is depicted gazing back at the city's crowning jewel, Durham Cathedral.
Created by artist/sculptor Andrew Burton in 1997, the installation references to the legend of the 'Dun Cow' and how the final resting place for the mortal remains of St Cuthbert was found.

Gazing up at the magnificent Norman architecture in the nave of Durham Cathedral this afternoon.
Part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the cathedral also contains the tombs of St Cuthbert and St Bede.
No matter how many times I visit, I am always in awe of this amazing sacred space.
