The moon continued to provide a pretty addition to the crisp midwinter mornings but the air quality near the horizon stopped me capturing the picture I really wanted with the moon touching the peak of Knockmealdown mountain as it set.

The iPhone’s AI ‘enhanced’ shot gives an idea of what it looked like earlier but despite trying both UV and polarizing filters I couldn’t bring out the moon nearer the horizon.

Happy enough with the attempt though.

Two quickly snapped poor pictures of the full moon setting over Dungarvan this morning. Hopefully I can get a much better version of this tomorrow.

I’ve lived here on and off for 50 years and this is the first time I realised this particular alignment ever happens. It more or less matches the extreme of the sun setting in midsummer but is a lot rarer because of the moon’s orbit and well, Irish skies and all that.

Building off the momentum from Catherine visiting Waterford, we had a successful canvas in Dungarvan on Saturday afternoon 🙌

Labour, Sinn Féin, Social Democrats and independents all out and united in our aim to get Catherine Connolly - @CatherineGalway - into the Áras as our next President of Ireland! 🇮🇪🇮🇪

So glad to see the motivation and momentum behind @CatherineGalway For President!

There are not many people who could get volunteers across the country out at midnight on a Tuesday night/Wednesday morning!

I finally managed to get a sort of clear shot of a Meadow Pipit today. I always hear them when I’m out on the Cunnigar but they really don’t like letting me get close enough photograph clearly. This turned out quite well.

I was not so lucky with the shots of bees, but there were hundreds, and many different species so it would be a shame not to include a few even if the shots aren’t great.

There were lots of butterflies around today but they weren’t too keen to play nice for the camera.

Ernest Walton died on 25 June 1995 in Belfast. Born in Dungarvan, Co Waterford, he was a physicist and Nobel laureate for his work with John Cockcroft with “atom-smashing” experiments done at Cambridge University in the early 1930s, and so became the first person in history to artificially split the atom.
