I might simplisticly describe this as mob psychology.
Prosecuting this crime is important in that it gives pause to types willing to indulge in this kind of madness.
The #Jan6th prosecutions in American are important for the very same reason. The perpetrators of this ugliness need to face justice both the leaders and foot soldiers
Prosecutions and conviction is not the end stage. Addressing the underlying social issues is equally important
